Agenda 21
The United Nations Economic and Social Council is one of the six principal organs of the United Nations.
Since the establishment of the United Nations (UN) in 1945, the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) has been subject to over a dozen proposals for reforms.
UN ECOSOC includes five regional commissions:
- Economic Commission for Africa (ECA)
- Economic Commission for Europe (ECE)
- Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC)
- Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP)
- Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA)
UN ECOSOC includes nine functional commissions:
- Commission for Social Development
- Commission on Human Rights
- Commission on Narcotic Drugs
- Commission on the Status of Women
- Commission on Population and Development
- Statistical Commission
- Commission on Science and Technology for Development
- Commission on Sustainable Development
- Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice
